Maillardville is a neighborhood in Coquitlam, British Columbia known for having the largest French Canadian community west of Manitoba. First established in 1889 and organized in 1910, its roots originate from a lumber community called Fraser Mills; the mill manager's residence is now Place des Arts (bottom photo). When French Canadian influence set in, the area was then named after an Oblate from France named Edmond Maillard. Now a suburban residential neighborhood, Maillardville currently hosts the annual Festival du Bois, the largest French Canadian festival in Western Canada, and shows signs of its roots with its bilingual English-French street signs and high concentration of French language schools and clubs.

Victoria's Chinatown is a designated National Historic Site that is the oldest one of its kind in Canada and second oldest in North America (after the one in San Francisco, California), dating back to 1858. Its beginnings stem from the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush at the time, triggering Chinese migration from both California and China. Its size and population peaked in 1911, until reducing in size until the 1980s when the neighborhood was revitalized.

Seattle's Chinatown and International District is the center of the city's Asian community. It developed in the early 1900s and was partially destroyed in the 1960s during the construction of Interstate 5; it gained federal heritage status in 1987.

The Golden Village is an Asian-themed district in Richmond close to Vancouver International Airport, and home to the second largest Asian community in North America. While it is not an official Chinatown, it has essentially evolved into one and has surpassed Metro Vancouver's official Chinatown in size and popularity.

Chinatown in Vancouver is the largest Chinatown in Canada. Formerly the center of the Chinese Canadian community in the city, it is now known more as a tourist attraction and historic district as in recent years, it has declined as other Chinese Canadian neighborhoods has sprung up, such as the Golden Village in suburban Richmond. Chinatown is home to the Sam Kee Building, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the narrowest commercial building in the world, and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, the first classical Chinese gardens outside of China.

Busan's Chinatown is part of the city's foreigners' shopping district, and was designed particularly for its Chinese, Russian and Japanese population. Being a port city, it is more centered around non-English audiences (in contrast to the foreigners' district in Seoul, Itaewon).

The Chinatown in Incheon is the only official one in Korea. It was originally created in 1884 as a free trade zone for the Qing Dynasty was Korea's largest Chinatown before the Chinese were forced out of South Korea in the 1960s and 1970s by the administration of Park Chung-hee. The government of Incheon Metropolitan City decided to spend US $6.2 million to revitalize and recreate its Chinatown in 2002; however, the new Chinatown has been criticized for being simply a Chinese-themed tourist trap run by and for Koreans, despite the original intentions of the government to use it to draw in Chinese tourists.

Itaewon is Seoul's international district. It is close to the US Army's Yongsan Garrison army base and is one of the big tourist attractions of the city. It has the densest collection of non-Korean restaurants and stores in the country, and many imported goods found here are unavailable elsewhere.
